Working Group Cooperation

Working group 8 - Cooperation

Current status

Contact and regular exchange are maintained with the senior chemists of the American Chemical Society (ACS; Robert Yokley), the Swiss Chemical Society (SCG; David Spichiger), and the Association of Austrian Chemists (GÖCh; Walter Schneider). The Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and the Société Chimique de France (SCF), and probably also the Royal Chemical Society (RSC), have senior chemist subgroups; possibly the Portuguese Chem.Soc. does too.

Close cooperation with GDCh Divisions: history of chemistry, chemical education and the Equal Opportunities Commission within the GDCh

Exploration of cooperation with the Working Group Process Analytics (PAT; Division of Analytical Chemistry)

Cooperation with the Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians (GDNÄ)

Cooperation with JungesForumChemie: annual conference, technology tours,

Cooperation with GECCos (a successful joint event held as a satellite meeting at the 10th SEC annual meeting in Bayreuth

Cooperation with DECHEMA concerning “...yes, but how?”

Objectives

  • Initiate exchange with SCI and SCF; increased participation in conferences
  • Possibility of reduced fees/sponsorship programmes for conferences such as those of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS); joint small symposium in Vienna in 2028?
  • Promote cross-Division projects and active participation in commissions, think tanks, etc.
  • Ensure a continuous supply of new members

Planned projects

Promote experimental teaching (Education working group)

Explore cooperation with VAA: aim to inform VAA members about the GDCh-SEC Division. The programmes for retired members appear to complement each other.

Renew cooperation with the LMC Society, joint events such as “Yes, but how?”

Symposium at EuChemS 2028?

Members of the working group

Chair: Eva Wille

Wolfram Koch, Wolfgang Kortmann (Stiftung Kinder forschen; currently inactive), Barbara Pohl, Uwe von Grabowski (currently inactive), Michael Dröscher (GDNÄ), Astrid Doerfer

Cooperation with GDCh Divisions

See above; the 2024/2026 member survey produced further suggestions, including the Society of Food Chemistry, Energy and sustainable chemistry Divisions.
