2018 Koehler SE

The 9th SEC Technology Tour took place in Ortenau on 7 September 2018. The programme included the August Koehler SE paper mill and Börsig Winery.
Thanks to good personal contacts, the senior members were able to get to know the Koehler paper mill in depth. Even if you have never heard of Koehler, you have very probably already held the company’s products in your hands, for example in the form of playing cards, beer mats, thermal paper (till receipts) or carbonless paper. Koehler’s range of specialist products is impressive.
The Koehler Group can look back on more than 210 years of company history. With turnover of over €800 million, it is now one of the few independent German family businesses in the paper industry. Around 1,800 employees at the headquarters in Oberkirch and the plants in Kehl, Greiz and Weisenbach produce more than 500,000 tonnes of specialist papers and boards annually for the global market.
The Börsig family cultivates approximately 5 hectares of vineyards, focusing on red wines made from Pinot Noir and Cabernet, as well as Riesling, which has an interesting character in Ortenau thanks to the granite-rich soil.
The senior members met at the Börsig wine tavern, a lovingly converted large barn, and were able to round off the eventful afternoon at the modern Koehler paper mill with a glass of fine wine from Ortenau.
