Workshops
Joint workshop of the four working groups of the GDCh Division environmental chemistry & Ecotoxicology
17–19 June 2024; Schmallenberg
The workshop provided an opportunity to get to know the “other” working groups, exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations. The aim of the open-ended discussion was to consider how we can achieve a clean environment (toxic-free environment) and what the working groups and the GDCh can contribute to this.
24/25 June 2020; Frankfurt am Main
The Working Group Soil invited participants to a workshop on current developments in the investigation and assessment of PAH contamination in urban soils. It was aimed at people from authorities and consultancy firms whose task is to assess soil contamination with PAHs. The workshop informed participants about developments and the current status of the new PAH assessment of soils.
4/5 October 2017; “Tropicarium” of Bayer AG CropScience Division; Monheim am Rhein
Highly polar organic substances are increasingly coming into focus in environmental research. Some of them are also persistent and mobile, which means that they play a special role in the water cycle. Their analysis presents a challenge, meaning that the occurrence of such substances in the environment has only been adequately investigated in individual cases. On the other hand, one might assume that highly polar substances, since they do not bioaccumulate, are of lesser toxicological significance. But is that really the case? What is already known about such substances from the fields of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and pesticides? What significance do transformation products have? What analytical methods are available for their detection? Where do problems with highly polar substances arise? The aim of the workshop was to contribute to a better understanding of highly polar substances and to the transfer of knowledge.
