Working Group Chemical Crystallography

The Working Group Chemical Crystallography (ChemKrist) of the GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry is concerned with crystal structural analysis as an analytical method for solving chemical questions – in close cooperation with people who use X-ray and neutron structural analysis; in addition to single-crystal methods, this primarily also includes powder diffractometry. Founded in 1979 in Frankfurt am Main as the Working Group Crystal Structural Analysis of Molecular Compounds (KSAM), it has been known as ChemKrist since 1999.

The working group pursues the following objectives:

  • Intensifying the exchange of ideas within chemistry, particularly advising working groups facing structural chemistry problems
  • Discussion forum for all areas of application of diffraction methods for solving chemical questions
  • Strengthening cooperation in the field of hardware and software as well as in the area of instrumentation, representing users’ interests in dialogue with manufacturers
  • Holding introductory and continuing education events both for early-career researchers and experienced users
  • Representing the interests of colleagues organised within the GDCh
  • Maintaining contact with the German Crystallographic Society

Introductory Texts on Crystallography
These short essays are not a substitute for textbooks, but make it easier to gain rapid access to the specialist literature. They are not original research papers, but rather “translations”. The authors have attempted to present journal articles or difficult-to-understand chapters from standard textbooks in such a way that they help readers get started in the subject area.
