Gerhard-Schulze Young Talent Award
The Working Group Archaeometry (AKA) of the GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry awards the Gerhard-Schulze Young Talent Award in even-numbered years in recognition of outstanding final-year projects in the field of archaeometry. Bachelor’s, master’s and diploma dissertations, or comparable academic final-year projects or doctoral theses, from all areas of archaeometry are eligible, with the focus being on innovative and impactful work. The €500 prize will be presented for the first time at the analytica conference 2026 in Munich. The award commemorates Professor Gerhard Schulze, who played a key role in advancing the establishment of archaeometric research within the analytical chemistry community. The aim is to support early-career researchers, provide them with opportunities to network and increase the visibility of archaeometry.
Submission period: July to October of odd-numbered years

The Gerhard-Schulze Young Talent Award was presented to Dr. Antonia Malissa on 26 March 2026 on the occasion of the analytica conference – in recognition of her dissertation, entitled “DECODE – Development of a Multi-Analytical Strategy for the Biocodicological Study of Parchment Degradation”, completed in the working group of Prof. Dr. Martina Marchetti-Deschmann at TU Wien.
"In her doctoral research, Dr. Malissa developed a multimodal approach to analysing damage in parchment. The combination of spectroscopic techniques, proteomics and lipidomics analyses that she established enables comprehensive characterisation of ageing and damage effects at molecular level. Her outstanding and innovative work demonstrates the potential of multi-omics analyses in the field of cultural heritage research."
