Scholarship programme
The Division of Analytical Chemistry of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) supports the participation of early-career scientists at national and international conferences, seminars or workshops by awarding various travel grants. Conditions:
Active participation in selected events (e.g. ANAKON, analytica conference) is particularly supported by the Division of Analytical Chemistry through the awarding of individually advertised scholarships.
There are currently no scholarships available for selected conferences.
The Division awards a limited number of grants of up to €350 for active participation (lecture/poster) at ANAKON 2027 (5–8 April 2027 in Mainz). Grants can be applied for no later than three weeks before the start of the event by emailing Maike Fries (GDCh Office) with the subject line “Conference grant ANAKON 2027”. The complete application must include the following documents:
In addition to the “special grants” (see above), the Division of Analytical Chemistry awards a limited number of travel grants for active participation in freely chosen analytical chemistry Conferences. A quota of 20 grants is reserved for the participation of young scientists from German research groups in ASAC events. Grants can be applied for at any time from Dr. Carina S. Kniep using the subject line “Travel Grant Analytical Chemistry” no later than three weeks before the start of the event . Each application must contain the following documents:
Maximum grant amounts: 250 euros (national Conference), 300 euros (Europe) or 500 euros (outside Europe)
The Division of Analytical Chemistry and its members benefit both professionally and financially from the success of the journal Analytical & Bioanalytical Chemistry (ABC).
Early-career researchers in analytical chemistry can apply for a scholarship for a visiting stay of at least one month at a research institution abroad. Conversely, the scholarship may also be awarded to individuals working abroad who are planning a visiting stay of at least one month in an analytical working group in Germany.
The aim of the publication scholarship is to support the completion of a joint publication by the participating research institutions, which must be submitted to the journal ABC for publication no later than six months after the end of the stay. The scholarship recipient must be the first author.
For the stay at the host institution, 500 euros per month, up to a maximum of 1000 euros, will be awarded. If the manuscript is accepted by ABC, a further 1500 euros will be paid after publication.
Applications should be submitted by email under the subject “ABC Publication Scholarship” to Dr. Carina S. Kniep (GDCh Office), enclosing the following documents (combined into one PDF document):
Before approving the scholarship, the Division Board submits the description of the research content and the abstract to an ABC editor for an expert statement and an assessment of its suitability for ABC (see “Aims and Scope”). The ABC editor informs the Division Board of their assessment. The Division Board then decides on the award of the scholarship. All submissions will be treated confidentially. Upon approval of the scholarship, the scholarship recipient undertakes to submit the manuscript to the journal ABC as first author no later than six months after completing the visiting stay.
The manuscript must be submitted via the journal’s regular submission system. Please address the cover letter to Prof. Dr. Ulrich Panne, Editor and include the following sentence: “This submission was supported by the Division of Analytical Chemistry of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) via a scholarship for finalizing a publication in a cooperation project.”
The GDCh Office (Dr. Carina S. Kniep) must be informed of the submission of the manuscript and publication of the article (link/DOI; publication date).
The Board of the Division supports group excursions as part of analytical training at universities and universities of applied sciences with a grant of up to 250 euros. The excursions must have a clear connection with analytical chemistry. As the organiser of the excursion, please send your informal applications together with a brief description of the content to the GDCh Office (Maike Fries). Following approval by the Board of the Division of Analytical Chemistry, we require the following documents:
The amount will be paid out once the required documents have been submitted. The organising team undertakes to write a report for the membership magazine of the Division (manuscript: please send it to the Editorial staff by email no later than 3 months after the excursion).
