“Science Connects” campaign

Science connects people

Under this motto, the five major mathematical and scientific societies join forces:

  • the German Chemical Society (GDCh)
  • the Association of Biology, Biosciences and Biomedicine in Germany (VBIO)
  • the Umbrella Association of Geosciences (DVGeo)
  • the German Mathematical Society (DMV) and
  • the German Physical Society (DPG)

to carry out joint initiatives time and again. In total, the professional societies named above represent more than 130,000 members.

What unites us is the awareness that those working in science bear a particularly high degree of responsibility for shaping all aspects of human life. As representatives of our disciplines, we bring together the broad spectrum of stakeholders in a community founded on responsibility and shared values, and commit ourselves to standing up for freedom, tolerance, truthfulness and dignity in science. We are convinced that scientific knowledge is a fundamental prerequisite for meeting the challenges of the future. Facts must form the basis for political and social debates. This requires a free scientific discourse conducted with rational arguments.

We want to set an example of openness to the world and hospitality. International contacts between scientists in a global, pluralistic world promote research and development and thereby benefit everyone. Scientists from all over the world bring knowledge and culture and enrich universities and research institutions in Germany and Europe. We therefore firmly oppose all protectionist restrictions and restrictions targeting specific groups that make it more difficult for people to work in science in another country.
