EuChemS

EuChemS

European Chemical Society (EuChemS)

The GDCh is the second-largest member of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS).

EuChemS is an association of scientific societies and professional organisations in the field of chemistry. It currently comprises 50 societies from Europe, which together represent more than 130,000 chemists throughout Europe. In addition to the GDCh, the German Bunsen Society is also represented in EuChemS.

EuChemS is the successor organisation to the Federation of European Chemical Societies (FECS), which was founded in 1970 with significant involvement from the GDCh.

EuChemS’s scientific activities, particularly conferences, networking and so on, are ensured by the corresponding Divisions and Working Parties. The GDCh appoints German representatives to these bodies.

  • The EuChemS office is based in Brussels.
The Executive Director is Dr. Nineta Hrastelj.
  • Since January 2024, Prof. Angela Agostiano has held the office of President. The GDCh Executive Director, Dr. Tom Kinzel, represents the GDCh on the EuChemS Executive Board, the highest decision-making body, which meets several times a year between the annual general meetings.
  • One of EuChemS’s main activities is organising the EuChemS Chemistry Congresses (ECC), which take place every two years. The first congress was held in Budapest in August 2006. This was followed by congresses in Turin in 2008, Nuremberg in 2010, Prague in 2012, Istanbul in 2014, Seville in 2016, Liverpool in 2018, Lisbon in 2022 and Dublin in 2024. The 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress will take place in Antwerp in July 2026.
  • The EuChemS magazine is published several times a year
  • EuChemS publishes an annual report every year
  • EuChemS presents awards.
  • It supports congresses and events organised by its partner societies.

annual year books.

Support EuChemS

You cannot become a member of EuChemS personally, as its direct members are the European chemical and molecular societies. Never mind, though: you can support EuCheMS with a donation.
