Photocatalyst‐Free, Visible Light‐Induced Hydroalkylation of Vinyl Sulfones with Alcohols

Von Wiley-VCH zur Verfügung gestellt

This study presents a straightforward, photocatalyst-free method for intermolecular hydroalkylation of vinyl sulfones with alcohols using visible light. Operating under mild conditions without metals or external redox agents, the protocol enables operationally simple access to γ-hydroxy sulfones—valuable building blocks for synthesis. Mechanistic insights suggest the involvement of benzenesulfinic acid, offering a deeper understanding of the transformation.

A method for direct intermolecular hydroalkylation of vinyl sulfones with alcohols using visible light is reported. The reaction operates free of a photocatalyst, metal, or external redox agents and under mild conditions. This protocol offers a convenient approach to γ-hydroxy sulfones, a valuable class of building blocks for synthesis.
