The catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 to produce value-added chemicals represents an essential strategy for sustainable carbon utilization. However, the design a novel and robust Ru catalyst for this process remains inadequately addressed. This concept paper introduces the recent advances in the homogeneous hydrogenation of CO2 catalyzed by Ru complexes and highlights the use of the intelligence-assisted data-driven approach.

Abstract

The homogeneous hydrogenation of CO2 to value-added chemicals, such as formic acid and methanol, represents a promising pathway for carbon utilization and renewable energy storage. We have previously investigated the Ru-catalyzed hydrogenation of CO2 to formate using a data-driven approach. In this concept, we present the essential advances in the homogeneous hydrogenation of CO2 catalyzed by Ru complexes, highlighting the application of descriptors and the potential of an intelligence-assisted data-driven approach.
